Shannon has had an interest in communication since middle school and high school, where she participated in the journalism programs. The interest continued and evolved, and Shannon has gained a variety of experience from editing, to educating, to computer training.

Shannon has worked as a copy editor at a daily newspaper, as a marketing/public relations coordinator, and in technology training and education. Shannon has also taught communication at the university (undergraduate and graduate) and community college levels. In this capacity, Shannon completed many new course designs and taught many different courses, including Editing for the Print Media, Public Relations Techniques, Theories of Web Design, Web Applications Techniques, Intercultural Communication, Public Relations Communication, Mass Media Communication, Organizational Communication, and Business Communication. Shannon also taught Fundamentals of Speech in the traditional lecture format and as an online course.
